Wine Blog – Something special

Suzanne gives her view on the latest wines coming to Jakes.

Barbera d’Asti DOC 2007 Produced by Bricco dei Guazzi.

The tasting notes state ”Aromas of ripe red fruits, particularly red cherries, and if fullbodied with soft silky tannins. It has delicate hints of fruit on the finish and a subtle note of vanilla”

I think….this wine is fabulous – its so full of fruit flavour – absolutely jammed packed full of ripe cherry – but I would say with a bit of a herbaceous finish – like elderflower or nettles – such a summer wine. Very very drinkable……leaving you with a warm lovely memory the next day – a taste you just want more of……I tasted it with cured meats – the vanilla shone through – but have yet to try with the cheeses….I suppose I’ll just have to open another bottle – as we really do need to know how well it matches and there’s nothing like trying it first hand…..essential I would have thought.

This wine will be available in May.

For people who love rose the new stock is available NOW.

Rose IGT 2008 produced by Fattoria Il Lago

It is an elegant crisp rose made from pure sangiovese. Firm bodied with strawberry and cherry notes and long lasting finish.

I think this is an absolute delight for rose drinkers. You can really taste the strawberries and again it is very very drinkable and perfect for a summers afternoon – it will even turn none rose drinkers like me to have a glass (or two)…..perfect.
